PEERS (Abridged) Programme

Abridged Peers: A 7-week program of adapted PEERS training (Program of Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills, by Elizabeth Laugeson), aims to build confidence and knowledge about friendships. In small groups, we learn through role play and socialising together to develop our knowledge and confidence on what works for us in navigating the social world. Parent/carers can participate in separate sessions focusing on supporting their child/young person’s learning. Sessions will build on each other each week, so that people feel safe to share what is helpful for them. We will work towards a final celebration session, where participants will receive a certificate of achievement.
Who is it for: Children and young people aged between 11- 17 years of age
When the program runs: We generate a list of people who express an interest in this course via our Admin lead at EASA, as it can only run when sufficient people attend, e.g. a group of 8-10 people. In the meantime, families/carers can access support around understanding friendships via the PEERs app online or through exploring Elizabeth Laurerson’s book, The Science of Making Friends. The Science of Making Friends: Helping Socially Challenged Teens and Young Adults. We are currently aiming to work with settings in the community to co-deliver the program with them.
