The service's parent support advisors are available to offer focused advice to parents in specific areas such as:

  • Setting up home routines/boundaries
  • Sleep
  • Toileting
  • Safety awareness
  • Ideas to occupy your child
  • Going out in the community
Parents/carers of young people who have received a confirmed diagnosis of autism

Referrals need to be made by a professional/School SENCo that knows your child using Referral Form

Parent Support Advisor 

 

'Workshops for parents'

The parent support advisors also provide workshops for parents for the following topics in a supportive and confidential group:

  • Safety awareness
  • Routines & Boundaries
  • Toileting

 

Parents/carers of young people who have received a confirmed diagnosis of autism

Invitation only or on completion of a Referral Form if you have not already submitted one (please note that this should be completed by a professional/School SENCo that knows your child) Please check the calendar for future workshop dates.

MAPS (Making A Positive Start)

A series of 4 information sessions about autism:

  • 'What Is Autism?
  • 'Strategies To Use At Home'
  • 'Understanding Behaviour'
  • 'Community Resources'

The sessions are a chance to meet with professionals to find out more about autism, what support is available in Enfield and some top tips to understand behaviour, communication, interaction and sensory differences.  

 

(A free crèche is currently provided by the venue for a limited number of children to support parents with childcare so that they can participate in this programme.  Please refer to administrator on 0208 353 4186 for further details)

Parents or carers of children under the age of 6 recently diagnosed with autism by the 'Social Communication Clinic' (SCC) and living in Enfield.

There should be no need to apply as the service will contact parents shortly after their child has been diagnosed to offer them a place, however, parents who have not accessed MAPS or their child was diagnosed privately or in another borough can request a place on a future course by emailing admin@enfieldasa.org.uk  with your child's diagnostic report attached to confirm their diagnosis of autism.

Professionals can also refer parents for MAPS following this same process.

Cygnet Parent Information Sessions about Autism

Cygnet consists of 5 core weekly information sessions,

Core Sessions 1-5:

  • 'Autism & Diagnosis'
  • 'Communication'
  • 'Sensory Issues'
  • 'Understanding Behaviour'
  • 'Managing Behaviour'

 

Additional Sessions

6 & 7:

 

The sessions will help you to find out more about autism and learn about strategies to support your child or young person. These sessions are run by Educational Psychologists and Parent Support Advisors from Enfield Advisory Service for Autism in a supportive and confidential group.

Please note that we cannot provide childcare facilities for these groups. These sessions are for PARENTS ONLY!!

Cygnet is a free course available for parents and carers of a child/young person with a diagnosis of autism living in Enfield aged between 6 to 18 years of age still in education.  

To book a place please complete Cygnet Parent Programme Application Form by clicking here and once completed please email the form to admin@enfieldasa.org.uk 

 

Criteria: 

  • Referral Form must be completed to access the Cygnet Programme
  • Core sessions must be attended before additional sessions
  • Parents must be committed to attend all 5 core Cygnet sessions as this is a course requirement
  • Parents can bring interpreters (please let us know in advance).
  • Unfortunately, parents cannot bring children.

National Autistic Society EarlyBird Programme

A 12 weeks autism training programme for parents of pre-school children.

Parents of children aged under 5 years with a diagnosis of autism.

Referrals can be made by:

  • Any professional working with a child under 5 with autism (with parent's consent).
  • The child's parents themselves

Understanding Autism - 'All About Me', Peer Awareness and Informed Therapeutic Interventions

' All About Me' is a short intervention designed for positively disclosing and explaining the autism diagnosis to individual children and young people.  Peer awareness work can be built on the individual work with your child or young person.  If they are struggling with their diagnosis, or if they are finding aspects of school life difficult to manage because of their diagnosis, other therapeutically informed approaches may be offered.

Any child or young person with autism who is judged ready to participate. This work is only carried out with parental consent and in partnership with you where possible.

Referrals need to be made by schools by completing Referral Form. Parents who are interested in this work should contact the SENCo at their child's school who can make a referral for you.
